Underbelly Edinburgh Award
We are delighted to announce the second year of the Underbelly Edinburgh Award at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Who is Underbelly?
Underbelly is one of the largest and most respected venue managers and producers at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Formed in 2000, they now programme and run 15 performance venues, ranging in size from 50 to 1000 seats, and sell 240,000 tickets to 120 shows per day during the Fringe. It’s a pure powerhouse of creativity, imagination and talent and they’re looking for the best of the Adelaide Fringe to join them in 2012.
What is the Award?
Underbelly will produce the winning show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012. This means that financially production costs will be covered up to £7,000 (but excluding flights to the UK) and operationally Underbelly will promote and general manage the winning show through their productions arm. The show will have all of Underbelly’s Edinburgh experience, know-how and facilities behind it. Underbelly hope the result will be a ‘risk free’ and hugely successful run at the largest festival in the world.
A shortlist of nominees will be announced in the week of 12th March 2012, with the winner announced at the Adelaide Fringe Awards Night on March 18th 2012.
Award Criteria
Underbelly is looking for an innovative show that truly entertains, stimulates and fascinates. The preference is for new writing / newly conceived productions rather than established texts and ideally a production that falls within the Theatre, Comedy, or Cabaret classifications.
The award is open to companies performing at the 2012 Adelaide Fringe, and only shows that Underbelly scouts are able watch will be considered.
Eligible productions can be from any country in the world except the United Kingdom.
Eligible shows must not have been performed in the UK.
